Serving Kent County DUI Clients
The Dover location covers the mid-state region for clients referred through Kent County courts and the Delaware DMV process. CORAS Dover is one of the few Kent County providers offering Spanish-language DUI groups, making it an accessible option for a broader range of clients.
- All three DUI levels available: education, Level 2 outpatient, extended treatment
- Spanish-language group sessions offered weekly
- Evening and daytime scheduling to fit working adults
- Licensed DUI counselor with experience across all program levels
- Separate DUI groups, not combined with general outpatient or IOP populations
- State DUI Tracking system used for completion reporting to the DMV
Understanding Your Level of Care
After a DUI arrest in Delaware, you will be referred to TASK for a screening. That screening assigns you to one of three levels based on your BAC, the substance involved (alcohol vs. drugs), and your prior DUI history. CORAS Dover offers all three:
Level 1: Education
Assigned when it is a first offense, BAC is under 0.15, and no drugs were involved. This is 16 hours of DUI instruction. After your in-person orientation in Dover, instruction is completed virtually via Zoom. No drug screens are required.
Most Level 1 clients retain their driver’s license. Many have their charge reduced to a reckless alcohol-related offense, which carries less long-term impact than a DUI conviction.
Level 2: Outpatient Treatment
Required if your BAC was 0.15 or above, drugs were involved in a first offense, or you have a second offense with a BAC at or below your first. The program is 16 hours of treatment over six weeks, including individual sessions, group sessions, 2 AA meetings, and 2 drug screens.
Dover counselors use “Driving With Care,” a curriculum approved under Delaware DSAMH standards (https://dhss.delaware.gov/DSAMH/DUI/), with structured lessons and group interaction focused specifically on impaired driving behavior.
Extended Treatment
Assigned when a second offense shows a higher BAC than the first, a second offense involves drugs after a first alcohol offense, or you have three or more DUI charges. Extended treatment is 27 hours over a minimum of 12 weeks, with 6 drug screens required.
Clients in extended treatment who are not producing clean screens by the halfway point may be referred to IOP. Completing IOP then becomes a prerequisite for DUI discharge. This is a clinical decision made by the counselor, not a penalty.

What Happens After You Complete the Program
When you finish your DUI program at CORAS Dover, your counselor reports your completion through the state’s DUI Tracking system. If you live in Delaware, you then return to the DMV with a reinstatement fee to get your license back.
If your criminal case resulted in a license revocation rather than a suspension, you must wait until the revocation period ends before returning to the DMV, even if you completed treatment early. On the criminal side, you may also need to present a certificate of completion to the court, depending on the terms set by your judge.
Key Facts About Delaware DUI Law
Delaware does not have a lookback window on DUI charges. Prior offenses stay on your record for life. There used to be a 10-year rule, but that has been eliminated for repeat offenders. A prior charge reduced to reckless alcohol-related may revert to a DUI if you reoffend.
Three or more DUI convictions carry potential prison time of 90 days to 18 months in Delaware. Completing your treatment on time is important. Courts typically set a six-month window, and missing it can trigger a probation violation.
Frequently Asked Questions
I live outside Delaware. Can I complete my DUI program at CORAS Dover?
If you were charged in Delaware but live out of state, you typically need to complete your required program level in your home state. The CORAS DUI director handles out-of-state case management and can refer you to an approved program in your area.
Are DUI groups at Dover combined with other treatment groups?
No. DUI groups at CORAS Dover are completely separate from general outpatient and IOP groups. The DUI curriculum follows a distinct program focused on impaired driving and is not interchangeable with other treatment tracks.
What is the “Driving With Care” curriculum?
“Driving With Care” is a DUI treatment curriculum approved under Delaware DSAMH standards. It includes structured lessons, assigned worksheets, and group discussion. You can learn more about Delaware’s DUI program standards at https://dhss.delaware.gov/DSAMH/DUI/. CORAS Dover counselors are trained in this curriculum for all treatment levels.
Does CORAS Dover have Spanish-language DUI groups?
Yes. A Spanish-language DUI group meets on Tuesdays from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the Dover location.
What is the missed appointment policy?
All sessions must be completed to earn a certificate of completion. Missing a session or individual appointment incurs a fee and requires makeup. Avoid missed sessions if you are working against a court deadline.
When are the busiest times to enroll?
DUI referrals spike in two windows: right after the holidays (January and February) and around tax season. Group sizes can reach 20 to 25 during those periods. Enrolling during quieter months may mean smaller groups and more scheduling flexibility.
